Summer Reading - Middle School: Middle School Summer Reading 2014

Use this guide to find summer reading ideas & recommendations!

Why Read in the Summer?

Researchers have been studying the effects of summer reading for years, and the results are always the same:  those who read are more successful than those who don’t.

For example, a 1978 study showed that “6th and 7th graders who read at least 6 books over the summer maintained or improved their reading skills, while kids who didn’t read any saw their skills slip by as much as an entire grade level.”*

It doesn’t really matter what you read or where you read – just be sure to read every day!  Since it’s summer, there won’t be any teachers telling you what to read, so pick your favorite genres and read!
